One of the requirements for admission to an Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility is the need for a physician. Typically, this means the patient has some medical conditions that require daily monitoring such as cardiac, pulmonary or kidney problems. Uncontrolled diabetes and diabetic ulcers also require frequent attention.
A rehabilitation physician manages this medical care, along with a 24-hr staff of nurses. Assisting with the medical management are physician specialists whom the rehabilitation physician may call in. Diet is an important aspect of medical care because different medical conditions have different nutritional needs. Especially for those patients who can not eat by mouth, a Registered Dietitian, helps plan the appropriate diet to make sure patients are up to participating in their therapy.
