Amputations / Prosthetic Training

At United Medical Rehabilitation Hospital the initial physical rehabilitation goals for your inpatient stay would primarily be focused on performing basic activities that you are accustomed to doing for optimal level of functioning. Our goals focus on bringing you to your highest potential of mobility in regards to functional transfers and restoring and improving your range of motion to prevent contractures at the hip and/or knee. We have designed learning modules and will incorporate them into your goals and plan of care during your stay to include such items as transfer safety, wheelchair and device utilization as well as energy conservation. Achieving independence with home exercise, edema control, skin management and desensitization techniques are other important goals for our patients.

Brain Injury

At United Medical Rehabilitation Hospital we understand that a Brain Injury can be a very devastating medical event which can affect just about every aspect of your life, including the way you walk, talk and think. When we use the term brain injury rehabilitation, we are referring to the many different kinds of specialized supports, therapy modalities, and services that we offer following the emergency and early phases of brain injury treatment.

Our highly experienced therapy staff focus on early identification of the specific needs and challenges that you are faced with to design a specialized program to meet your needs and to bring you the your highest level of independent functioning. Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy each play an important part of traditional services specific to brain injury rehabilitation.

Burns

At United Medical Rehabilitation Hospital we certainly have seen the impact that burns can have on an individual’s life both physical and emotional. A burn is damage to body tissue caused by heat, cold, electricity, chemicals or radiation. Injuries range from first degree burns that affect outer layer of the skin to second or third degree burns that extend into deeper tissues.

Our treatment plans have been designed with the collaboration of both Physical and Occupational Therapy along with Nursing and the most current medical modalities. Our goals are directed to help patients manage their pain as they recover from tissue, muscle, and nerve damage making all attempts to avoid severe scarring. We feel that incorporating our Social Worker into the plan of care completes our holistic approach which allows us to treat the whole patient—body, mind and spirit—with exceptional care.

Congenital Deformity

Congenital Deformities can present themselves in many different forms and may progress and complicate various aspects of a person’s ability to function in everyday life. At United Medical Rehabilitation Hospital we identify not only the congenital deformity but how it is impeding you personally, in each aspect of your specific life. We work with each person’s unique situations and design a plan of care that focuses on getting them to their highest level of functioning. Neurological Disorders

Osteoarthritis

Our experiences with these modalities prove to be successful as they help you to achieve and maintain optimal mobility and function. At United Medical Rehabilitation Hospital our highly skilled Therapy Department will assess your specific conditions and needs and will make recommendations regarding the use of assistive equipment and proper footwear for optimal functioning and safety and will also educate you on the use of cold or heat therapy to manage joint pain and swelling.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

United Medical Rehabilitation Hospital understands how Rheumatoid Arthritis can be a severely debilitating condition and know that by incorporating our highly skilled therapy team, we can make a difference in your ability to live and function. Our Occupational Therapists specialize in maximizing your independence. They can assess your ability to perform the activities of daily living. If doing routine things around the house or at work has become harder, an Occupational Therapist can probably help.

We see our Physical Therapists as having a very simple focus: Keeping you moving. Physical Therapy will stimulate muscles, bones, and joints through exercise or other methods. The result is more strength, tone, and overall fitness. Physical Therapists understand the mechanics of bones, joints, and muscles working together, the problems that can occur, and what to do about them.

Spinal Cord Injury

United Medical Rehabilitation Hospital highly skilled staff and the most advanced robotic therapy to assess and treat Spinal Cord Injuries. Our goal of treatment during the rehabilitation phase of a spinal cord injury is to return as much function as possible to the patient. Rehabilitation does not reverse the effects of stroke. Its goals are to build your strength, capability and confidence so you can continue your daily activities despite the effects of your stroke.
